Devastation.
The GNUs have just received new equipment from DEC, and hope to continue their offensive against the Evil Empire. Now the Underground, and the GNUs, are no longer a secret to the Evil Empire, and rumors are spreading fast among the once mindless citizens of the Empire.
For the first time, people outside of the Underground are starting to second guess the Empire, and the Underground is growing. Unfortunately, with this new growth, the chance for infiltration by the Empire grows. . .many spies have already been caught, and dealt with. . .
The GNU forces are at an all time high. They have never been stronger, but they are no longer a secret. This has forced Linus to move his plans forward at an accelerated rate. The Evil Empire and its allies constantly attack members of the Underground and their suppliers. Linus has contacted other suppliers, including Sirics, but no one knows how long DEC can survive. Int-L makes almost daily assaults on DEC, and has already destroyed another of there suppliers, Spark, after the devastation of the Sun worshipers.
You receive an emergency message from Linus. DEC has just finished its new model, the EV6, but is under attack, and unable to make delivery. Your mission is to defend the base, rout the enemy, and bring the new EV6s home. You alert your soldiers, and leave for the DEC base in your battle-worn EV5s post-haste.
As you near the DEC base there is an uneasy quiet. You cannot hear nor see any Int-L ships. As the DEC base comes into view, you notice that you are too late. The base is destroyed, and the EV6s are destroyed. You search the base for survivors, but find none. The whole base is deserted, the base itself severely damaged.
As you search the base, you notice something that you hadn't at the base before. There was a little stuffed elephant under a pillow in one of the barracks. Your mind flashes back to a time before the Evil Empire, to a time before they took your wife away. . .
No! It can't be the same elephant! You quickly search the room for anything else of your wife's, maybe this is where she had gone? Maybe the Men in Black didn't take her! But now, now she is gone. . .
You search the rest of the room, but find nothing else. You hold the elephant tightly as you relive memories of your life before the Empire.
Then your radio crackles. You awake from your reverie, and try to compose yourself before you answer, but as you do, you choke on your words.
The base is under attack. You run to your EV5 and jump in, still holding the elephant. Int-L ships appear over the horizon. You engage the enemy Klamaths and Deschutes, and easily destroy the first waves. But then unknown ships appear. These ships are still Int-L, but of an unknown type. You engage, but they destroy many of your ships, you only destroy a few of theirs. You decide that it is more important that Linus learn of these than it is to destroy the new ships, so you order your fleet to break-off and return home.
As you retreat, the new ships follow you. You have no choice but to order some of your men to stay and fight a delaying action, knowing that they cannot win. . .
