The Future

Part II

The rebellion.

In the future, the world is controlled by totalitarian regime, known to the Underground as the "Evil Empire." The Evil Empire has destroyed all who oppose it with great efficiency, and then rewrote history for its own purpose. Even thoughts against the government are banned, and the streets are patrolled by The "Men in Black."

There is but one hope for the world. The GNU movement is part of the Underground. They are the last, best hope for liberation from the Evil Empire.

It has been a year after you joined the GNU movement and swore to avenge those whom the Evil Empire has assimilated into its collective. You have risen through the ranks of the GNUs, and are now in command of a small battalion in the GNU militia. The rule of the Evil Empire has not ameliorated, on the contrary, conditions have consistently deteriorated. The streets where the Macs live are now being patrolled, and the Evil Empire has eliminated a recent revolutionary organization of Sun worshipers. The threat of capture for you and your organization has greatly increased, and thus Linus has decided that it is time to strike back at the Evil Empire, and regain what was once a glorious world.

Linus is addressing the leaders of the GNU militia. As you listen, your thoughts wander. You remember your son, the fun you had together, the time you went to the park, the same park where you had first met your wife.

Your wife! Suddenly thoughts flow back to you. The fun that you had together. Your thoughts go back to when you were dating, how you would go to the movies, how you won her a stuffed animal at the amusement park. That was all before the Evil Empire, before the Men in Black, before, when the world was peaceful, and carefree, before. . .

Suddenly your thoughts turn back to Linus and the meeting. He is assigning missions to the battalion leaders, soon he will announce yours.

You return to your barracks, and brief your battalion on your new mission. You are to lead your battalion to position Alpha, where you are to meet with a group know as DEC. This mission is of the upmost importance for the GNUs, as DEC has agreed to supply the rebellion with equipment superior to that which the Empire traditionally uses. Unfortunately, DEC has been under constant attack by the International Legion (Int-L),

As you approach position Alpha, you hear gunfire. You send a scout ahead who returns with grim news. Int-L is attacking DEC's headquarters. You radio to Linus, telling him of the situation, and requesting support. Linus responds by sending his top battalions to assist you, but orders you to defend DEC before assistance arrives. You report the situation to your battalion, and prepare for the upcoming battle.

You can now see the battle between DEC and Int-L. Although DEC has superior equipment, they are out numbered by Int-L. You see DEC EV4s and EV5s being destroyed by swarm after swarm of Klamaths and Deschutes. Your soldiers take their positions and prepare to join the defense of DEC. The other battalions are still too far away to aid in the defense, and will probably be too late for the battle. It is up to you and your battalion to defend DEC, and with them, the future of your cause.

You give the order. Your men begin an assault on the Int-L forces. The Int-L forces barely recognize your forces, as they focus their attack on DEC. Your men take out a few Klamaths before a squad of Int-L Deschutes turn toward you and open fire. Your soldiers fall left and right. You are out-gunned by the Int-L forces, and unable to reach the DEC headquarters.

Suddenly you see two DEC EV5s screaming in, and destroy most of the Deschutes squad, the rest fleeing towards the main assault. One of the EV5s radios you, telling you to report to DEC headquarters for new equipment, and then turns back to fight. The other EV5 stays to cover your battalion as they make a run for the DEC base.

You reach the base. Your men immediately jump into the new EV4s and EV5s and return to the battle. Swarm after swarm of Int-L ships attack. Guns blasting left and right. You line up a Klamath in the sights of your EV5 and fire. Direct hit! The Klamath explodes in a ball of fire. You see Klamaths exploding all round you, as well as a few Deschutes. . .and some of your men. With the added man power of your battalion, and the added fire-power of the DEC weapons, the Int-L ships are eventually repelled, but not without loss.

After returning to DEC headquarters, you count your casualties. A large number of your men were destroyed by the Int-L Deschutes prior to the intervention of DEC EV5s, and more of your men were destroyed after receiving the DEC EV4s and EV5s. The loss of life of DEC soldiers is unknown to you, but from what you saw, it must have been high. The DEC base is a mess, most of the base is out of power, and the infirmaries are crowded. The ground outside is covered in debris and corpses from both sides of the engagement.

Your men stay the night at the base, and the next day three GNU battalions arrive. You radio back to Linus, and tell him of the engagement. You report on casualties, the status of the DEC base, and of the equipment that DEC is contributing to the GNUs. Linus orders you and the other battalions back to the GNU base, leaving one battalion at the DEC headquarters to help with repairs and to defend against a future attack. At sunrise, you and the other battalions start back for home.
