IRC On occasion. Often just on #matt_is_god on berkely ;)
Academic Profile
Grade See my FAQ.
Colleges Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (they gave me $11k more than anyone else)
Major Philosophy, just like the guy in Road House. "Pain don't hurt."
Extra Curricular . . .High School.
Hockey, Ice The program at Princeton U. says that I am "a division I prostpect." ;) But seriously . . .

Princeton Midget (Usually Defense)
  • 1998 - 1999 NJYHL Champions (Regular Season), repeated in 1999 - 2000
  • 1998 - 1999 NJYHL Champions (Playoffs), second in 1999 - 2000
  • 1999 - 2000 Atlantic District Champions
  • 1st in the Lehigh tournament (defeated Maryland's district champs), repeated in 1999 - 2000
  • 1st in the Pensauken tournament, 1999 - 2000
  • 2nd on team in scoring amongst defensemen (10-20--30 or so)
  • Also was . . . um . . . among leaders in PIM (28)
Really isn't that much over the season . . . team leader had 60 PIM, and that's with about a dozen games lost due to suspension!
  • Memorable game of the year: we defeated CEC 6-3 without a goaltender (six skaters)

High School (Goaltender)
  • Made states in first full Varsity year (we were JV last year, our first year)
  • Scored a goal ;), got first shutout in school history
  • Tied for second in scoring in school's post-season history
  • Visit the site
Other Sports
Soccer
Played various positions at various levels from age 8 to middle school
Haven't played in a few years as hockey seems to go year round now
New (8/99): Now I'm being recruited
Baseball
Played off and on for a few years. Never really enjoyed it, though. Boring. Favorite pro team: Mets
Lacrosse
Unfortuneately, I only played for one year a while back. There really wasn't a good program in the area, just a poor instructional thing.
Basketball
Played in fourth, and again in sixth grade. Lousy sport. 1 for 1 lifetime at those free-throw things at amusement parks ;)

Numerous others that were not officially organized
Band (School) Symphonic Band & Stage Band (Alto Sax)

Thanks to the rest of the section for not going on the trip this year . . . we have a regular sized section for once! Four for Symph, two for Stage.

New for '99: No more band. Scheduling conflicts. Thanks.
Asian Club Kind of been drafted . . . showed up at a meeting in attempt to get a ride home.
How many people can you fit in Sung's car? An awful lot.
Chess Club Now here's a club I haven't shown up to in a while. I hear it still exists.
If I remember correctly, the last time I showed up, I got into a "fight" with Greene.
Sung appears to still be the only person with skill in the club. Always willing for a rematch.
NEW '99: I hereby declare myself President and will anounce first meeting.
UPDATE: We had a wonderful year, though attendance was dismal.
HTML Club Charles would want me to advertise his club (minus his name).
UPDATE: Defunct?
Technology Committee Do they actually do anything? How did I get invited to that technology fair anyway?
Of course, it is perseveres due to the efforts of the capable Brice Daniels. Without him, our computers would have no keyboards and mice for weeks, and our computer tables would fall if a stack of papers were to be placed on them. Without Brice, our school would be stuck in the dark ages of technology. (How am I in the running for Webmaster next year?)

NEW '99: Ok, I didn't get the job. Instead we have someone who "sorta" knows HTML, but nothing else about the system. "FrontPage? Dreamweaver? Nope, we use 'Cut & Paste2000'" - Anonymous
Academic League Never again . . . We could have won!
Math League The beauty of being in Calc BC.
Computers and Stuff
Favorite OS GNU/Linux (culture-wise). An OS should be a tool for a job though.
Favorite Shell BASH (Bourne Again SHell)
Languages C, C++, Java, Basic, Visual Basic, Pascal

Scripting languages:
VBA, VBS, JavaScript, JScript (yeah, same thing), WScript (my own scripting language) [defunct: 2001], various others that are simply too close to mention
First Language Basic (Basica, actually, on a Compaq 8088 back in 1992 or so)
First program was definitely a classic: Guess My Number! (Third grade sounds familiar). I then went on a 7 year hiatus (more or less?) without programming again until sophomore year of high school.
Most Popular Game RUDY: The Card Game
My Favorite Program by Me W-Shell
Favorite Game Genre RPG
Favorite all-time: 1. Dragon Warrior IV (Enix)
Honorable mentions:
  1. Secret of Mana (SquareSoft)
  2. Ultima VII (Origin)
  3. Final Fantasy 4 (SquareSoft)
Favorite series (any genre)
  1. Wing Commander (Origin)
  2. Dragon Warrior (Enix)
  3. Ultima (Origin)
  4. Final Fantasy (SquareSoft)

Favorite games (any genre)
  1. Dragon Warrior IV (Enix)
  2. Wing Commander Privateer (Origin)
  3. Pong (Atari?)
  4. Terminus? (Vicarious Visions)

General Note: Quality of Origin games kind of fell by the wayside after the EA conquest and Chris Roberts and Richard Garriot left. Actually, without the founders, the creative genius behind their best games and the greatest mega-hits among the EA conglomerate, can this still be considered Origin?
Idiosyncracies Helvetica, not Arial
Directories, not Folders
.html, not .htm
Java should be portable, not running windows-only extensions
Gore did not create the net, and no government has the right to control it.
What's so new about Times Roman?
Personal, Tastes, Misc and other Intangibles
Religion Christian; Roman Catholic to be specific
Favorite Pro Sports Team New Jersey Devils
Favorite Soft Drink 8 parts Coke : 6 parts Dr. Pepper : 3 parts Sprite : 1 part Minute Made Orange Soda
Favorite Coffee French Vanilla, Black. Always black, except for that swill BK serves.
Music You'll be hard pressed to find someone with a more eclectic taste. My semi-current playlist is over here, and there is currently a boycott of Metallica related CD's and stuff.
Quote "A man wanna be rich,
Rich man wanna be king,
A king ain't satisfied
Till he rules everything."
"I believe in the love that you gave me,
I believe in the hope that can save me,
I believe in the faith that may raise me."
..................Badlands - Bruce Springsteen

And what the people but a herd confus'd,
A miscellaneous rabble, who extol
Things vulgar, and well weigh'd, scarce worth the praise?
